Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies is an American television drama series that premiered on HBO on February 19, 2017. Created and written by David E. Kelley, the series’ seven-episode first season is based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty. Each episode was directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.

Big Little Lies stars Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley and tells the story of three emotionally troubled women in Monterey, California, who become embroiled in a murder investigation. Alexander Skarsgård, Laura Dern, Jeffrey Nordling, Adam Scott, Zoë Kravitz, and James Tupper feature in supporting roles. Critically acclaimed, the series garnered several accolades. It received 16 Emmy Award nominations and won eight, including Outstanding Limited Series and acting awards for Kidman, Skarsgård, and Dern. The trio also won Golden Globe Awards in addition to a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film win for the series. Kidman and Skarsgård also received Screen Actors Guild Award for their performances.
Despite originally being billed as a miniseries, HBO renewed the series for a second season. Production on the second season began in March 2018 and is set to premiere in 2019. The entire main cast will return with the addition of Meryl Streep. All seven episodes are being written by Kelley and directed by Andrea Arnold.

The Long Road Home is an American drama miniseries created by Mikko Alanne. It is based on the 2007 book The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family by Martha Raddatz. The series stars Michael Kelly, Jason Ritter, Kate Bosworth, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jeremy Sisto, Noel Fisher, Jon Beavers, E. J. Bonilla, Jorge Diaz, Ian Quinlan, Darius Homayoun and Patrick Schwarzenegger. The miniseries premiered on National Geographic on November 7, 2017.

People of Earth

People of Earth is an American science fiction comedy television series created by David Jenkins about a support group for alien abductees as well as the aliens who have previously abducted them. TBS ordered the pilot under the name The Group in May 2015, and announced a 10-episode order in January 2016.The series premiered on October 31, 2016, on TBS. On September 13, 2017, TBS renewed the series for a third season.

American Gods

American Gods is an American fantasy drama television series based on the novel of the same name, written by Neil Gaiman and originally published in 2001. The television series was developed by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green for the premium cable network Starz. Fuller and Green served as the showrunners for the first season, and are set to be replaced by Jesse Alexander for the second season. Gaiman serves as an executive producer along with Fuller, Green, Craig Cegielski, Stefanie Berk, David Slade, and Adam Kane.

The series focuses on Shadow Moon, who meets a strange man named Mr. Wednesday after being released from prison, and soon becomes embroiled in a large-scale conflict between the Old Gods and the New Gods, who grow stronger each day. The first season originally ran on the Starz network and streaming service from April to June 2017. In May 2017, the series was renewed for a second season.

Alias Grace

Alias Grace is a Canadian-American television miniseries directed by Mary Harron and starring Sarah Gadon. It is based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood and adapted by Sarah Polley. The series consists of six episodes.It premiered on CBC on September 25, 2017, and appeared on Netflix on November 3, 2017.

In advance of the series premiere, the first two episodes received a preview screening at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival in its Primetime lineup of selected television programming

The series was the third adaptation of an Atwood novel broadcast on television in 2017, after The Handmaid’s Tale (adapted for Hulu) and Wandering Wenda (adapted for CBC Television’s CBC Kids lineup).

Backstabbing for Beginners

Backstabbing for Beginners is a political thriller film directed and co-written by Per Fly, and based on the memoirs of Michael Soussan, with the same name. It follows the real life corruption scandal in the UN Oil-for-Food Programme, and star Theo James and Ben Kingsley. Filming started in March 2016 in Marrakech, Morocco.Part of the filming took place in Copenhagen in April 2016. In June 2017, A24 and DirecTV Cinema acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film.The film was released in Denmark on 18 January 2018.[11]- The film was released through DirecTV Cinema on 22 March 2018, before being released in a limited release on 27 April 2018.

Cardinal is a Canadian crime drama television series, which premiered January 25, 2017, on CTV (in English) and Super Écran (in French). The series is an adaptation of Giles Blunt’s crime novels about police detectives John Cardinal (Billy Campbell) and Lise Delorme (Karine Vanasse) in the fictional city of Algonquin Bay. The cast also includes Deborah Hay, Alanna Bale, Glen Gould, Eric Hicks, David Richmond-Peck, Gail Maurice, Kristen Thomson, Brendan Fletcher, and Allie MacDonald.

The first season is based on the novel Forty Words for Sorrow, about the investigation of the murder of a young girl.On February 28, 2017, CTV renewed Cardinal for a second and third season both to have six episodes. The second season is based on Blunt’s third John Cardinal novel, Black Fly Season, while the third is slated to be based on By the Time You Read This and Crime Machine, the fourth and fifth novels in the series. Episodes of season 2 were added weekly one day in advance of the broadcast air date on Crave TV.

Wish Upon

Wish Upon is a 2017 American supernatural horror film, directed by John R. Leonetti, written by Barbara Marshall, and starring Joey King, Ki Hong Lee, Sydney Park, Elisabeth Röhm, and Ryan Phillippe. The film follows a teenage girl who finds a magic box that grants wishes, but kills someone close to her each time it does.

The film was theatrically released on July 14, 2017, by Broad Green Pictures and Orion Pictures. The film is produced by Sherryl Clark from her production company, Busted Shark Productions, and written by Barbara Marshall. The film began production in November 2016 in Toronto.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive Skin is a Canadian black comedy television series. It is an adaptation of the British series of the same name, created by Hugo Blick. The show’s six-episode first season was written by comedian Bob Martin and directed by Don McKellar.The series premiered on HBO Canada on July 20, 2014.The series was renewed for a second season, with production resuming in spring 2015 in Toronto. The second season, consisting of six episodes, premiered on May 15, 2016.

The Grand Seduction

The Grand Seduction is a 2013 Canadian comedy film directed by Don McKellar and written by Ken Scott and Michael Dowse. The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Brendan Gleeson, Liane Balaban and Gordon Pinsent. It is based on a 2003 French-Canadian film, La Grande Séduction.

The film was nominated in four categories for the Canadian Screen Awards, with Pinsent winning the award for Actor in a Supporting Role at the March 2014 ceremony.
