Michael LeBlanc

Michael broke out as a highly regarded music video cinematographer back in 2007, doing innovative work that early in his career allowed him to experiment with a wide range of cinematic styles and influences. This background honed his eye and craft as a well-rounded artist in both long and short format arenas.

Michael was the recipient of the inaugural Prism Prize Arthur Lipsett Award, has been twice nominated for the UK Music Video Awards, and won a Camera Image D&AD Yellow Pencil Award for Outstanding Achievement. His video for Fucked Up’s “QUEEN OF HEARTS” was included for TIFF’s 150 Essential Works in Canadian Cinema History. His work has been featured in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, The Globe & Mail, VICE, Interview Magazine, SPIN, and elsewhere, earning spots on numerous global best music video lists.

Michael’s work in the feature film space has screened at prestigious festivals such as TIFF, Berlin, Karlovy Vary, Stockholm, among others. Credits include BUSINESS ETHICS(Larenz Tate, Lance Reddick, Kurtwood Smith), STRANGER THAN LOVE (Alison Brie, Colin Hanks), THE COAT (shot in Italy, screened at TIFF’s 2015 wavelength program), THE PIN, (Cannes Perspectives Canada) and TOILET, a Japanese/Canadian co-production starring Tatiana Maslany, among others.  In television, Michael has worked as 2nd Unit DOP on Netflix’s ANNE WITH AN E, and TMN’s ROGUE.

Michael is from the East Coast of Canada, now based in Toronto, and has worked globally; widely across North America, Europe, Africa, and South America.
